Prior to 2011, the deflection and deflection rate were not associated with the acceptance criteria for any assembly test in ASTM E119. When the Loaded Unrestrained Beams Test was added in 2011, the acceptance criteria included a maximum total deflection and maximum deflection rate for the beam specimen.
The proposed revisions recommend modifications to Appendix X2 to reflect the appropriate interval for reporting deflection, and to Appendix X5 to clarify which test has a limitation regarding deflection.
The first recommendation relates to the Suggested Report Form in Appendix X2 where it states to report deflections every 5 minutes or 10 minutes (depending on the time elapsed). This does not align with Section 22.214.171.124 where it states to record deflections at least once every 30 seconds.
The second recommendation relates to the Commentary in Appendix X5 where it states that there is no limitation on deflection other than the ability of the assembly to stay in place. This does not align with Section 126.96.36.199 where there is a stated maximum total deflection and maximum deflection rate.
