Test results that have been converted from other hardness tests or scales:
Although ASTM E140 states requirements for reporting converted numbers, there are no comparable statements in the hardness test standards. The E140 requirement might be overlooked or the user might use other hardness conversions.
Test results that have been corrected for testing on cylindrical or spherical surfaces:
There are no requirements for reporting when corrections are made for tests on curved surfaces. The receiver of test data might not know whether corrections have been made. The difference between an uncorrected test result on a curved surface and the actual hardness can be significant.
This revision is to add additional reporting requirements to ASTM E92-17 for: (1) hardness test results that are converted from a different hardness test or scale, or (2) hardness test results that have been corrected for testing on curved surfaces. Similar revisions have been previously approved in E18-22.
