New Specification for ASTM F15.16 Infant Feeding Support

1. Scope

1.1 This consumer safety specification establishes safety performance requirements, test methods, and labeling requirements to minimize the hazards to infants presented by Infant Feeding Support Products.
1.2 This consumer safety specification is intended to minimize the risk of injuries to infants resulting from normal use and reasonably foreseeable misuse or abuse of Infant Feeding Support Products.
1.3 This consumer safety performance specification covers any product, that is intended to position and support an infant while breastfeeding or bottle feeding. It covers products intended for use with newborns and infants from birth to 9 months, or when baby is able to sit unassisted. These products may or may not include a restraint system for the infant or a strap to attach the product to a caregiver; and may include accessories such as toys, or a bottle or pocket. These products are not for sleep and should only be used with constant supervision by an alert caregiver. This specification does not cover products that are intended to provide sleeping accommodations for the occupant. If the Infant Feeding Support Product can be converted into a product for which another ASTM standard consumer safety specification exists, the product shall meet the applicable requirements of that standard as well. ASTM F2236 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers and ASTM F2236, ASTM F2907 Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Sling Carriers are excluded from the scope of this standard. Toys included with the Infant Support Product shall meet the applicable requirements of ASTM F963.
1.4 No Infant Feeding Support product produced after the approval date of this consumer safety specification shall, either by label or other means, indicate compliance with this specification unless it conforms to all requirements contained herein.
