Revision of D143-21 Standard Test Methods for Small Clear Specimens of Timber
Rationale
D143, Section 6 has several deficiencies that the revision is intended to remedy:
6.1 Instructs to control MC and temperature but not to record and report.
6.2 Sentence 1 - Only “air-dry” moisture content condition is considered.
Sentence 2 - “Any changes” in MC is not defined.
Sentence 3 - “Large changes” in MC is not defined.
Sentence 4 - Prep and testing rooms with humidity control is “desirable” is not mandatory and does not necessarily prevent changes in MC.
6.3 Sentence 3 - Temperature and relative humidity for testing are given but not for conditioning.
Sentence 4 - Conditioning temperature and relative humidity are not required to be reported.
