New Test Method for Determining the Citric Acid Activity of Light-Burnt Magnesium Oxide

1. Scope

1.1 The time required for caustic calcined magnesite to neutralize citric acid provides a rapid indication of degree of calcination and an indirect measure of surface area and therefore reactivity.

Keywords

Magnesium oxide; ignited residue; purity; activity; caustic; magnesia

Rationale

Magnesium oxide-based products offer alternatives to existing building products that are produced and used in the building industry. Test Standards for chemical and physical requirements for light- burnt magnesium oxide are required to assure suitability for use in the production of magnesium oxide products.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
