Revision of D5457-21a Standard Specification for Computing Reference Resistance of Wood-Based Materials and Structural Connections for Load and Resistance Factor Design
Rationale
Revise Scope and Section 4 to identify format conversion as the standard method and replace existing mandatory Annex A1 with new nonmandatory Appendix X2.
Ballot summary and rationale: The purpose of this ballot is to focus on relocating the Annex A1 test-based method from a mandatory Annex to a nonmandatory Appendix such that the standard method for determining a reference resistance for LRFD becomes the format conversion method. Reasons for use of format conversion as the standard method and the proposed reorganization are described in new Appendix X2. Reviewers should note the following: 1) Current Appendix X1 (commentary) is proposed to remain as the first Appendix. It provides an overview of reliability-based design (RBD) and load and resistance factor design (LRFD). Select information is moved from Appendix X1 (commentary) and existing mandatory Annex A1 to a new nonmandatory Appendix X2 on test-based methods. 2) With new Appendix X2 on test-based methods immediately following commentary (i.e., Appendix X1), subsequent Appendices are renumbered (i.e., X2, X3, and X4 become X3, X4, and X5). This re-organization includes removal of similar redundant information.
