Revision of E181-17 Standard Test Methods for Detector Calibration and Analysis of Radionuclides

Rationale

E181 combines several marginally related topics making it difficult to use and maintain. Technical changes are sought to bring E10.05 detector calibration and analysis standards current with industry methods and practices. Structural changes are needed to separate topical areas into separate standards that follow current ASTM policies.
E181 does not meet current ASTM standards for a test method. In recognition of this issue, E10.5 seeks to redesignate E181 as a guide. As separate standards are developed, appropriate designations will be determined.
As the process cannot be completed in one ballot cycle, this effort will necessitate multiple revisions of E181 as sections are revised, updated, and issued as separate standards. E181 will remain and function as a guide (matrix) to link the new standards developed to the existing standards from several committees that reference E181. By removing sections as they become obsolete, the confusion of multiple and conflicting standards may be avoided during this revision. Ultimately, E181 will be maintained as a guide but will not contain technical content.
