This ballot is one of several ballots to propose changes to a number of E05 standards, to relocate standard specific definitions from Section 3.2 to Section 3.1 in various standards when the definitions are currently generic definitions located in Section 4 of ASTM E176.
There are many instances in various ASTM E05 standards of generic definitions from Section 4 of ASTM E176 being found in Section 3.2 “Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard”. If the exact definitions from Section 3.2 of the standard are defined in Section 4 of ASTM E176, those definitions should be relocated and listed under Section 3.1 “Definitions”.
For this ballot, it is recommended the “effective heat of combustion”, “gross heat of combustion”, “heat flux”, “ignitability”, “initial test heat flux”, “oxygen consumption principle”, and “smoke obscuration” data be relocated from Section 3.2 to Section 3.1. In the second line of the discussion for the term “heat flux”, the term “incident heat flux” is changed to “initial test heat flux” to be consistent with the generic definition located in Section 4 of ASTM E176.
