Due for periodic review Added Note 1 regarding D3666 as required by Committee D04 policy. Changed milimetres to millimeters throughout. The temperature of the sample needs to be brought to the elevation-corrected temperature of 360C [680 F] with no tolerance given. The elevation corrections are given for every 1C and every 1 or 2 F. It therefore can be assumed that the thermometer used must be capable of measuring temperature to the nearest 0.5C [1F] is needed. The original thermometer specified, an ASTM 8C [8F] has subdivisions every 1 degree C [2 degrees F] and is readable at each half subdivision according to ASTM E1. An ASTM 8C [8F] thermometer has a maximum scale error of 1.5C above 300F [3F above 570F]. Since this is the thermometer traditionally used, the requirements of the digital alternative specified have been changed to match the specs on the 8C [8F] thermometer. Tables 1 and 2 have been combined. Titles have been added to the columns to provide the reader a better reference as to when to use each of the temperatures listed. Images have been updated to include both SI units and Inch-Pound Units Inch-pound units have been added in places where they are missing. The temperatures throughout the test in which the amount of distillate shall be recorded has been added to the test procedure for added clarity.
