A correction to the method is proposed regarding validation of the LED light source pad reading device. The supplier claims to have developed an improved validation device which allows for extended calibration periods to be obtained, hence eliminating the need for annual return as currently stated in the method. The current annual calibration is believed to place undue burden on users of the method. The suppliers ability to provide optical standards with significantly extended stability would allow the continued use of the instrument while the values obtained by user performing validations are within range. This change is claimed to have no impact on either absolute calibration, reproducibility, or repeatability of the instrument, it claims to change only the duration that a user can continue instrument use through enhanced stability of the validation standards. If this ballot item is approved, the supplier currently plans to provide the new validation device with all new instrument purchases and convert existing instruments at the next factory calibration.
