Recycled materials have been used in the manufacture of roofing products, including shingles, for well over 100 years. Recycled pre-consumer and post-consumer materials were, and are, significant components in organic felts, and in mineral stabilizer materials, and in cullet materials used in the manufacture of glass felts. This proposed revision recognizes the importance of conserving material resources by the use of recycled, or reprocessed, materials in the manufacture of shingle products, as covered in some detail in Standard Guide D8013, provided that those products meet or exceed all of the requirements of the standard.
