This practice will provide an alternative means of compliance for emergency landing loads which are currently in F3083, section 4.2.3. The practice will describe a means of compliance to assess chest injury using ATD chest deflection and acceleration measurements instead of the current shoulder belt loads criteria.
restraints, injury criteria, dynamic, emergency landing, seat,
Shoulder belt load criteria of 1750 lb. for a single diagonal restraint (2000 lb. for a dual harness) is highly dependent on the geometry of the belt configuration. A direct measurement of chest deflection and acceleration eliminates the geometry effect of the shoulder belt. The practice will be used by aircraft designers and seat suppliers to certify seats for use in aircraft
