New Test Method for Exoskeleton Use: Hurdles

1. Scope

The development and maintenance of standards for exoskeletons and exosuits. The Committee will encourage research in this field and sponsor symposia, workshops, and publications to facilitate the development of such standards. The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM technical committees and organizations having mutual or related interests.

Keywords

exoskeleton; exosuit; hurdles; industrial/occupational; military; response; medical; recreational; movement

Rationale

Hurdle designs can vary greatly in, for example: height; width across the path; raised bar or solid wall; thin, straight vertical or having depth/thickness; load bearing or not; and indoors or outdoors. Obstacles left in the floor and stepped over can also be considered hurdles. There are also several methods in which a person can traverse hurdles, for example: step over, crawl over; sit, rotate, then stand; and side step over. A standard test method, as a part of the test method suite, is required for exoskeleton users to traverse hurdles to demonstrate user and exoskeleton capabilities.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
