New Test Method for Conductive Deposit Test

1. Scope

The test method covers the procedure to determine the mass of test deposits formed on a circuit board partially submerged in test fluid in a bath at 150C and with 5 volts conducted through the board. The resistance in measured over the course of the 1000 hour test. Copper content of the fluid is measured by ICP.

Deposits; Conductive; Copper; EV; electric vehicle; hybrid; motor; transmission fluid;

It has been found in the field that deposit formation on the EV motor will conduct electricity and causing arcing that potentially destroys the motor. A test method is needed to evaluate potential oils that may cause deposits.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
