New Test Method for Determination of the electrical conductivity of plant soil substrates

1. Scope

Standardized methodology for determination of a plant soil substrate that reflects the electrical conductivity plants experience.

Keywords

electrical conductivity, plant substrate

Rationale

Electrical conductivity is commonly tested along with pH for plant substrates at time of use, as well throughout the growth cycle. Electrical conductivity of a sample is highly influenced by both the extent of dilution by water during sample preparation currently varying from "glistening to 1:1 or 1:1.5 volume to volume ratio. Specification of the method being used during testing is critical to interpretation of electrical conductivity (EC) results.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
