This test method covers the use of in-situ tensioning to improve the detectability of cracks in additively manufactured hollow rod fatigue sample using X-ray Computed tomography. This is a non-destructive test performed using industrial x-ray computed tomography and a cost-effective tensioning system. This test method does not cover quantitative sizing of cracks or automated detection of cracks.
Structure Integrity; Damage Tolerance
The fatigue performance of additively manufactured parts must be well understood for the safe use of additive components in service. This standard provides a non-destructively method of studying crack formation and crack growth and increase our understanding of fatigue properties. Expected users include materials development, structural integrity, and research development.
