New Practice for Additive Manufacturing -- Data -- Common exchange format for particle size analysis by light scattering

1. Scope

The promotion of knowledge, stimulation of research and implementation of technology through the development of standards for additive manufacturing technologies. The work of this Committee will be coordinated with other ASTM technical committees and other national and international organizations having mutual or related interests.

Keywords

particle size distribution; light scattering; data sharing; powder characterization; data exchange; data format

Rationale

This standard is needed to facilitate the sharing of data. Having a common exchange format will reduce time and resource requirements that arise when parsing data from outside organizations. Ideally, if a common format is adopted, one would only need to parse to and from this format, rather than from a different format and structure from every organization. This standard will be used to establish a common file format and structure for particle size analysis (by light scattering) data. It will also act as a template for future common data exchange format standards. The intended users are anyone who wants to simplify the process of sharing particle size analysis data. It will also be used by community members as a basis for building new common data exchange format standards.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
