ASTM WK74950

New Test Method for Hydrogen Sulfide in Workplace Air by Direct-Reading Electrochemical Detectors

1. Scope

This practice covers the detection of hydrogen sulfide gas in workplace air by direct-reading electrochemical detectors. This standard aims to protect the workers health and safety when they are working by monitoring whether the concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas exceeds the maximum allowable concentration (MAC) or other limits. The direct-reading gases detectors using electrochemical sensor are included. The sample results are immediately available by visual observation, thus no follow-up analytical equipment is needed.

Keywords

hydrogen sulfide; electrochemical detector

Rationale

Hydrogen sulfide is a very common occupational disease and harmful factor, which is widely distributed in the air of various workplaces in oil extraction, petrochemical and other industries. Therefore, the accurate detection of hydrogen sulfide is an important premise to protect the safety and health of workers.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
