1.1 This guide describes general procedures for squeeze-off of polyethylene (PE) pressure pipe and tubing for non-natural gas distribution applications such as transport of water (potable water, wastewater, reclaimed water, storm water, fracking water, gas gathering produced water) and non-regulated gathering gases. This guide is applicable to pipe and tubing manufactured in accordance to D2513, F2619, D2737, D2239, D3035, and F714 with a minimum ASTM D3350 material designation of PE4710 manufactured from resins with a minimum hydrostatic design basis of 1600psi at 73F listed with the Plastic Pipe Institute (PPI) and that have been qualified by the manufacturer for squeeze off through testing per ASTM D2513 or F1734. Operators should use this guide to develop a more specific procedure that addresses their needs. Note: See ASTM F1041 for isolating polyethylene gas distribution piping by squeeze-off. 1.2 Governing codes and project specifications should be consulted. Nothing in this document should be construed as recommending practices or systems at variance with governing codes and project specifications. 1.3 UnitsThe values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units, which are provided for information only and are not considered the standard. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
