This ballot is to provide changes to the ASTM Standard Specification D2880 to provide a general update to the standard wording and test methods to be more in line with ASTM D396 and ASTM D975 on which this standard is based. It also provides 3 sulfur grades (S15, S500, S5000) for the lighter grade fuels along with corresponding specification parameters for lubricity and conductivity and modifies the table format to simplify the inclusion of the sulfur grades as has been done with the ASTM D396 heating oil specification. This is the second ballot for this item. The first ballot included these same basic non-biodiesel items, as well as incorporation of up to 5% biodiesel (B5) in the 0, 1 and 2 grades. The inclusion of B5 is being placed in a separate future ballot, and minor changes have been made to address comments or negatives on the non-biodiesel items for this ballot. The specification tables and sulfur and conductivity tables are modeled after those recently balloted and approved for ASTM D396, and requirements are added for conductivity and lubricity as has been done in both D975 and D396. This is collaboration between gas turbine interests led by Dr. Priyank Saxena of Solar Turbine, a leading manufacturer of land-based gas turbines, and the ASTM Biodiesel Task Force and is the first ballot of this item.
