New Guide for Additive manufacturing -- Environment, health and safety -- Standard guideline for use of metallic materials

1. Scope

This document provides a guide for risk assessment and implementation of prevention and protection measures relating to additive manufacturing with metallic feedstocks (e.g. powders, wires,). The risks covered by this document concern all sub-processes composing the manufacturing process, including the management of waste.

Rationale

The method described in this document allows to assess the HSE risk with regard to the materials used, the process, the AM system installation conditions, the applicable good practices and the feedback from experience. The methodology is based on a characterization of physical hazards (e. g. fire and explosion), hazards to the health of the operator or the potentially exposed third parties in accordance with ISO 12100 and to the environment.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
