New Test Method for Analysis of Cannabinoids in Cannabis and Cannabis Extracts by Gas Chromatography (GC)

1. Scope

The development and maintenance of standards and guidance materials for cannabis and its products and processes. The work of this committee will be coordinated with other ASTM committees and other organizations having mutual interest.

Keywords

Pinene, Myrcene, Limonene, Caryophyllene, Humulene, Cannabidiol (CBD), CBDA, THC, THCA, Cannabinol (CBN)

Rationale

The measurement of terpenes and cannabinoids in cannabis is needed to optimize plant selection, processing, quality control and to meet regulatory requirements. The use of GC for meeting these needs is attractive because GC is relatively accurate, simple and inexpensive compared to other techniques. It is capable of measuring both terpenes and cannabinoids in a single analysis and is complimentary to other techniques, especially for process control and verification. There is a lack of standard test methods in this industry and across government organizations.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
