New Test Methods for Measuring the Surface Shape of Snow Sport Freestyle Terrain Park Jumps

1. Scope

1.1 This procedure is intended to standardize methods of measuring representative cross-sectional profiles of snow sport freestyle terrain park jumps, as shown in Figure 1. It does not cover other types of terrain park features or asymmetric jumps. 1.2 This procedure is for measuring jumps that are used in snow sport freestyle terrain parks as shown in Figure 1 below and discussed in ASTM Standard F3237-18. 1.3 For features with multiple takeoffs, each takeoff should be considered as an independent jump and measured according to this standard. 1.4 The values measured, stated in Imperial units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address jump safety considerations associated with their use.

Keywords

jump; terrain park; freestyle terrain; takeoff; lip; knuckle; deck; landing; approach; snow surface measurement

Rationale

In order to research impacts of jump design on jump users, it is necessary to be able to compare jump measurements from jumps built at different ski resorts. In order to compare numbers accurately, data must be found and formatted in a standardized fashion.

The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
