A new procedure (Procedure I) is proposed to measure the fiber percentage in polymer matrix composites reinforced by organic fibers, such as natural fiber, Kevlar fiber, polyethylene fiber, or any other polymer fibers. The composite, its matrix resin, and its fiber reinforcement are carbonized in a nitrogen-purging furnace at an elevated temperature. A new set of equations is developed and proposed to calculate the fiber percentage based on the residue of the composite, the carbonization ratio of the matrix, and the carbonization ratio of the organic fiber.
