1.1 This practice covers the method of validating a non-contact measurement for the determination of thickness and density of flexible, felted, or woven thermal insulating blankets, rolls, or batts composed of fibrous materials, with or without surface covering or reinforcement. Due to the rapid change of technology and techniques, no specific method is described in the practice, only the validation of any new method. 1.2 Units--The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This standard will provide a method for verifying that a non-contact thickness measurement technique provides data that is not statistically significantly different than that of ASTM C167.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
