1.1 This test method describes a laboratory procedure used for determination of the hydraulic cement paste workability by measuring the area of a pat (spread) formed by cement paste upon lifting of a mini-slump cone. 1.2 Units--The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. No other units of measurement are included in this standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. See Section 8 for a specific warning statement. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
cement paste; mini-slump; consistency; incompatibility; early stiffening; false set; flash set
The mini-slump cone test is a fast and simple method for an assessment of the flow characteristics of a cement paste which in turn provides information on its workability. This test had been frequently used since 1980 publication of Kantros paper. Notwithstanding its widespread use, available publications frequently provide conflicting procedural instructions. The introduction of this new standard is an attempt to standardized mini-slump method and provide the necessary information and specific instructions on how to conduct this test properly.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
