This test method covers the determination of the Soil Water Retention Curve (SWRC) and the Hydraulic Conductivity Function (HCF) for wetting and drying paths using the Transient Water Release and Imbibition (TWRI) method. This test method may be used with intact or compacted soils that do not change significantly in volume during changes in volumetric water content or suction and therefore, is not applicable to expansive clays or collapsing soils. This test method applies to soils where the final cumulative outflow in a test corresponds to a volumetric water content change of at least 50% of the difference between saturated and residual volumetric water contents.
Hydraulic conductivity, soil-water retention curve, unsaturated soils
This is a combined approach to measure the hydraulic properties of unsaturated soils using inverse analysis of outflow data from an unsaturated soil specimen.
The title and scope are in draft form and are under development within this ASTM Committee.
