Electrical Conductance Methods for Locating Leaks in Roofing and Waterproof Membranes

Source

Undetected roof leaks and the subsequent deterioration are considered one of the primary causes of premature roof failure. This paper shows the need for a systematic procedure to test, verify, and monitor the integrity of roofing and waterproof membranes using low voltage electrical conductance measurement methods to locate leaks in membranes. The methods described are particularly useful for roof designs that incorporate a membrane under a vegetative, wear-course, or topping slab where direct inspection of the membrane is difficult or impossible.
