Asphalt Content by Neutron Moderation

Source

The neutron moderation method of asphalt content determination is investigated by evaluating the effects of temperature of the mix, mass specific gravity of the sample, asphalt source, penetration grade of the asphalt, aggregate composition and gradation, and asphalt content of the mixture on the response of an experimental asphalt content gauge. Asphalt content and mass specific gravity each showed a strong linear correlation with counting rate in the range of 2 to 10 percent asphalt content and mass specific gravity of 1.25 to 1.50. The other variables showed no significant effect on gauge response.
