Properties and Uses of Radioisotopes

Source

Radioisotopes are being used at a rapidly increasing rate in all fields of science and engineering. The growth in the applications of radioactive materials started in 1946 when an abundant supply of a large variety of radioisotopes became available from the nuclear reactors operated by the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission. At first radioisotopes were mainly tools of the research scientist and were limited to the confines of the laboratory. As experience was gained and more people became acquainted with their potentialities, radioisotopes were applied on a routine basis to problems in the factory and testing laboratory.
