Recent Developments in Gas Welding and Cutting

Source

During the past year there have been several outstanding developments in oxy-acetylene welding and cutting which have attracted considerable interest in industrial fields, and which have further established the oxy-acetylene process as a most important economic factor in production and repair work. These improvements range from new welding rods through refinements in many of the practices and controls heretofore used, up to an entirely new method of welding. This new method of welding was probably the most outstanding development during the year 1930. Welds greatly superior in quality and strength can be made with the new method in from 30 to 60 per cent less time and with a lower consumption of oxygen, acetylene and welding rod than with the old method. At the present time, approximately 2000 miles of pipe line, varying in size from 4 to 24 in. in diameter have been constructed by this method with marked success. As further work is carried out, this method will undoubtedly have a profound influence on the application of oxy-acetylene welding in many other fields.
