Applications of Modern Physics to Materials Tests

Source

This paper reports the results of studies carried out at the Centre Expérimental de Recherches et d'Etudes du Bâtiment et des Travaus Publics (CEBTP) since 1953 on the application of radioactivity to measurements of density and water content, stressing more particularly certain difficult points, such as the influence of the surface state and the problems of calibration. The results of studies on the possibility of batching bitumen in road surfacing by neutron diffusion, the results of an X-ray study of the composition of baked clay for building, and the measurements of the dielectric constant are discussed.
