Pile Load Tests and Their Evaluation

Source

Pile load test procedures and the criteria by which the results are judged, as set forth in building and other agency codes, are compared to point up the need for modernization and standardization in procedures. In the evaluation of pile load test results, the importance of the plastic deformation curve and methods of determining the yield point load are explained. The paper emphasizes the engineer's responsibility in the selection of adequate safety factors based on the results of load tests on piles. Piles in tension and laterally loaded piles are briefly discussed.
