Control of Construction Dewatering by Use of Piezometers

Source

Structures with deep foundations and projects near waterways frequently require major dewatering operations to carry out construction in the dry. Maintaining the undisturbed condition of foundation soils and stability of cut slopes and cofferdams may necessitate specific limitations on pore water pressures during construction. One practical method for controlling dewatering procedures is to install piezometers to observe the reduction in pore pressures. This paper describes piezometers for such a purpose and illustrates their use in determining the adequacy of pressure relief or of drawdown in several practical problems.
