Introduction

Source

How certain are we that the data we use really define water quality adequately and accurately? How often do we compare data from different sources and assume that the analytical methods used were identical? How often in reporting results do we neglect to report the limitations on accuracy and precision of the methods used? How often in the interests of reducing costs (defined as feasibility) do we provide data on long-term composites as an alternate to sampling that will show ranges? How often do we adopt analytical procedures used by regulatory agencies without questioning their validity? How often do we accept published figures as accurate?
