X-ray Detectors

Source

The techniques currently utilized in the detection of electromagnetic radiation are reviewed. These include gas ionization, photoconversion in single crystal and organic scintillators, electron emission by photocathodes, and charge carrier generation in semiconductor junctions. The underlying physical principles as well as some of the practical problems which characterize the several commonly employed techniques are discussed. The main emphasis of the paper is directed toward the detection of radiation in the X-ray region (100 to 0.1 A).
