Present and Future Requirements of Motor Gasoline to Meet Needs for Satisfactory Engine Performance

Source

Changes in fuel requirements will continue in an evolutionary manner. Operating economies in terms of miles per dollar are and will continue to be of primary interest. Vehicle performance requirements, particularly as applied to road maneuverability and driver safety, will stimulate highly competitive vehicle improvements. The resulting lighter weight but ample package size will challenge the engine designer to obtain greater power from smaller engines. This will require a concomitant fuel development program. Specifics such as volatility; Motor and Research octane; fuel type, particularly with regard to surface ignition; and fuel cleanliness and their possible influence on advance design considerations are discussed briefly.
