In-Process Prediction of the Diffusible Hydrogen Content of Gas Metal Arc Welds

Source

A noncontacting, spectroscopic technique has been developed to measure weld arc composition in real time. Measurements have been made of hydrogen emission line intensity and correlated with weldment hydrogen content as measured using gas chromatography. A model based on Sievert's Law is proposed to explain the relationship between the partial pressure of hydrogen measured in the welding arc and the hydrogen content of the completed weld.
