On the Dichroism in R-Bands Induced in γ-Irradiated Potassium Chloride Crystals

Source

The dichroism in R-bands is measured by applying various excitation and measurement conditions. The difference spectra of R bands indicate that the oscillator strength of the RF band should be about 50 percent higher than those of the R1 and R2 bands. The kinetic measurements of the dichroism growth show a good agreement with the first-order kinetic equation, suggesting that the above effect appears as a result of simple reorientation of R centers. The distribution of individual optical transition moments of R centers observed in 100, 110, and 111 directions is compared with that resulting from the van Doorn model, the results showing a satisfactory agreement with the latter. Some observations point to the possibility of interaction effects between various trapped-electron centers, leading to a dichroism “forced” in absorption bands of centers not subjected to excitation.
