Development of a Radiation Tolerant All Solid State Tracking and Command System

As a part of the SNAPSHOT program, all equipment which must function during orbital operation of the SNAP 10A nuclear power system must be designed to withstand, in addition to the usual environments of launch and earth orbit, the leakage flux from the on-board nuclear reactor. This flux consists of neutrons and gamma rays which over a one year operating period may produce total doses of 1013 neutrons/cm2 with energies greater than 0.1 Mev, and 2 × 107 Rads (carbon) gammas. To be discussed here are the radiation hardening aspects of the development of a doppler command and tracking system for this program.
