A Television X-ray Image Enlargement System for Non-destructive Testing of Fiber Glass Reinforced Plastic Missile Case Materials

Source

A unique television X-ray imaging system is described that was developed at The Ohio State University, Nondestructive Test Research Laboratory, under the sponsorship of Watertown Arsenal Laboratories. This system utilizes small-diameter (1-in.) special X-ray sensing vidicon camera tubes as a direct sensing medium for the penetrating radiation image. The resulting signal is amplified by means of a closed circuit television system, and the image presented on a 17-in. picture tube resulting in 32 × magnification. Image of good contrast and detail resolution better than 0.0005 in. is reported.
