Use of the Electron Probe to Measure Low Average but High Local Concentrations

Source

In some problems of measuring very low average concentrations, the elements of interest actually occur in isolated high local concentrations. Air-borne dusts, corrosion layers, and segregations in alloys are examples. For such problems, the electron probe offers a unique approach with its ability to analyze selected localized areas 1 μ in diameter and comprising less than 10−12 g of material.
