Biaxial Stress Fields in Noncohesive Soils Subjected to Vibratory Loads


Normal stress measurements in situ for noncohesive soils subjected to vibratory loads are described. A discussion on instrumentation and measuring technique follows. Biaxial stress fields could be plotted for the soil investigated by averaging readings from pressure cell records. Results of the experiments are compared with the elastic stress theory indicating a standard deviation of approximately 5.2 per cent.
