A Micro Notched-Bar Impact Test for Titanium Alloys

Source

A micro-impact test is described. Test specimens can be machined inexpensively from 1/4-in diameter rod stock, which can be of advantage when limited amounts of material are available. Transition temperatures are close to those indicated by the V-notch Charpy test. In addition, the impact energy values (in inch-lb) approximate those for the V-notch Charpy test (in foot-lb). Data are presented for several titanium alloys and for other materials, showing the comparison between this micro-impact test and the standard impact tests.
