Techniques for the Study of Precipitated Carbides

Source

The size, shape, distribution, and growth behavior of carbide particles have a pronounced influence upon the chemical and mechanical properties of low- and high-alloy steels. A relationship between the physical structure of the precipitated carbides and the corrosion susceptibility of 18 per cent chromium-8 per cent nickel steels has been clearly shown by Mahla and Nielson (1)2 and Kinzel (2). Crafts and Lamont (3, 4, 5) have shown how alloying elements modify the nature of the carbides and the properties of tempered and isothermally transformed steels.
