Advancements in Extrusion and Cold Finishing of Stainless Steel Irregular Shapes

Source

Since the beginning of commercial stainless steel extrusion in the United States in 1951, advancements in the technique of extrusion die design, improved extrusion die materials, and improved methods of extrusion die production have broadened the market for extruded steel products, and, more recently, cold finishing of stainless steel irregular shape extrusions has further broadened the market. Multiple orifice die designs, research in the hot work die steel area, electric discharge machine process for finishing of extrusion die orifices, use of EDM for cold draw die production, and correlation of extruded product design to make possible further finishing by cold drawing are refinements in the metal processing industry which have made possible the production of more intricate configurations with closer dimensional control.
