Instrument Modification for Routine Electron Diffraction

The theoretical and practical considerations of the diffraction process and electron optics are discussed at an intermediate level; these considerations are used as an outline for instrument modifications. The results of these modifications to an RCA EMU-2E electron microscope for use with selected area diffraction, and to a diffraction reader, are listed. An evaporated gold powder pattern was used as a standard.
