The Colorimetric Determination of Formaldehyde and Methanol from Combustion Sources

Source

Formaldehyde and methanol are formed to a greater or lesser extent during the combustion of organic materials. A method is proposed for the colorimetric determination of these substances, based on the reaction with chromotropic acid. Formaldehyde is determined directly, methanol after oxidation to formaldehyde.
