Radiation Thermometry—Status and Trends

The use of radiation thermometry has expanded over the past five years and applications will increase to meet new industrial demands and the addition of new technologies. There is the full product spectrum from portables to transmitters to closed loop control systems. Tailored designs also are being developed involving dual wavelength sensors, multihead systems, fiber-optic sensors, and hybrid designs to measure aluminum.

This paper summarizes the present and future trends in radiation thermometry. Instrument development will continue as user demands for accurate product temperature measurements are uncovered.
