Analysis of Procedures for the Determination of the Yield Force (F ) for Instrumented Sub-Sized Charpy-V Specimens

Source

A method for the determination of the yield force (Fgy) is defined in Annex D of the Draft Standard for impact Testing of Sub-Sized Charpy Specimens [1]. The procedure describes an iterative method for finding the straight line (Hooke's line) in the initial part of the force-displacement curve. Fgy is then taken as the point of intersection of this line with a fitted line through the fully plastic range of the data. This method is applied to force-time data collected during Phase 1 of a Round-Robin [2] to validate the Proposed Standard. Analysis of the results shows that a modification to the procedure improves the reliability of the method for finding the Fgy values.
